Cross Stitch Starter: Reel 2

See how to pull your floss strands and thread your needle.

Cross Stitch floss is made of 6 separate strands. Patterns tell you how many strands to use. Typically for a project worked on 14-count aida, you will pull 2 strands for your standard “X” stitches.

Ensure that the floss length is no longer than your arm. You will be tempted to cut more, but if you do, be warned…you will get tangles. Limiting your floss length to arm length makes you less likely to get these tangles. Think about how far you must pull that floss each time you run it through the aida. Really long floss means that your arm will be overworked as well.
